Connecting Kids with Wilderness Since 2005

Located in the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills near the wild and scenic Yuba River and Tahoe National Forest, Camp Woolman is a place where every day is an adventure!

Campers come here to backpack, make new friends, visit beautiful places, learn about nature, be their true selves, and have a blast! Kids come back year after year but each summer we have lots of new faces as well. Our counselors are fun, friendly, and here to make sure you have a fantastic time. Here you will spend your days playing games, singing, making art, being silly, learning about peace, nature, the garden, and so much more! In addition, campers enjoy delicious and healthy vegetarian food from our wonderful kitchen!

We also go on backpacking trips! Trips are a highlight for many campers and are a chance to experience the outdoors in a new, safe, and exciting way.

Other special events we do at camp incluse Talent Show Night, Jugs (Capture the Flag with some Woolman twists), Barbeques at Mel's Pond, and Tie-Dyeing. It doesn't matter who you are at school or where you are from, at camp the only person you have to impress is yourself!

Work Trades

Work trades are a fun way to make camp more affordable. In exchange for a week of helping the camp community - usually through shifts in the kitchen - you will receive room and board and $350 toward one child's tuition at camp. Volunteers live on site in A-frames that sleep up to two people, work in the kitchen alongside our incredible kitchen manager, and can participate in many of our camp activities - such as talent shows, camp fires, capture the flag, bbqs at the pond, and gratitude circles. Since a majority of our campers are backpacking Tuesday-Thursday (or sometimes Monday-Wednesday), kitchen volunteers get a nice chunk of time off in the middle of the week. Once the work-trade is complete, camp will refund you the $350.The work is approximately 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. Work trades are most essential in the kitchen, but could potentially be or include maintenance or leading activities in an area of your expertise. While not working, enjoy reading, playing music, and walking to the river (a 3 mile hike from our campus). It is possible to bring younger children to camp with you, but camp staff cannot guarantee childcare for non-campers. In the past younger children have enjoyed accompanying their parents in the kitchen, or, those in the age range of 6-8 have been able to join the campers in some activities. You can fill out our Kitchen Volunteer Application, or for more information email

Camperships (scholarships for campers) available

We don't want cost to ever be a deterrent for sending your child to Camp Woolman! Every summer we aim to assist at least 20 campers with tuition, usually amounting to $20,000 total in awards. As of January 18, 2020 Campership applicants will be put on our summer 2020 waitlist - many families were early to apply this year and we have limited funding. As our spring Campership campaigns wrap up we will work with as many applicants on the waitlist as we can. Please refer to our Financial Aid page for more information on Discounts, Work Trades, and Camperships, or email

A Community of Acceptance and Celebration

Here at Camp Woolman, our priority is to create a safe, respectful, and healthy environment that embraces people's differences. We are an organization founded on the Quaker values of peace, simplicity, unity, community, integrity, equality, social justice, a culture of diversity, respect, non-violent, learning to listen to the "still. small voice" within, and environmental sustainability. We welcome and celebrate people from all cultures, backgrounds, orientations, gender identities and expressions. More on Camp Woolman Values

We run two camps – Wombat Camp (ages 9-14) and Teen Leadership Camp (ages 15-17). Each week of Wombat Camp includes a 3-day overnight backpacking to nearby rivers, mountains and lakes. Teen Leadership Camp is divided into 3 sessions that range from beginner to advanced backing, and include backpacking trips anywhere from 3 to 10 days long.
